Grants for doctoral students in the graduate class "Secularities and Cultural Dynamics", University of Leipzig

Within the graduate class "Secularities and Cultural Dynamics", the University of Leipzig offers 5 grants for doctoral students for the period from April 2011 to March 2013 (with the possibility of an extension for a further year).

The class is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of secularity in various parts of the world and historical periods. Of particular interest are the cultural dynamics that accompany secularity, as well as interactions between the religious and the secular. We are looking for persons with an above-average degree in the humanities or social sciences. The grants are conditional upon matriculation in the graduate class. The University of Leipzig has set itself the goal of raising the proportion of women and therefore urges women to apply. Persons with physical disabilities will be given preference in cases of equal aptitude.

Environmental Biogeochemical Cycle Research Program (EBCRP), Research Institute for Global Change (RIGC)

The atmospheric geochemical cycle research team of EBCRP in RIGC solicits an application for Postdoctoral Researcher to its Environment Research and Technology Development Fund theme S-7 supported by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE).

Applicants are invited for the Postdoctral Researcher in following research activities:
(1) Analysis of the transport and transform processes of pollutants such as ozone and PM2.5 in East Asia and Northern Hemisphere by using regional chemical transport models (CTMs). A close collaboration with the observational sub-themes in S-7 is expected.
(2) Analysis of decadal-scale variations of ozone and aerosols by CTM calculations
(3) Development and validation of aerosol processes in regional CTMs
(4) Source-Receptor analysis and sensitivity analysis of the concentation of pollutants to the change of emissions

Requirements

1.Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or a closely related field. Advanced knowledge in atmospheric CTMs, FORTRAN programming, large dataset handling, visualization software, and UNIX environment are required. Also, applicants must be within five years since awarded a Ph.D. at the time of appointment. Successful candidate will be hired as a Postdoctoral Researcher.

Contract Period Period of employment is from October 1st, 2010 to March 31st, 2011. Employment contract is renewable every fiscal year depending on the progress of research and research project, but maximum for twice (until March 31st, 2013).
Salary Aannual salary : JPY5,256,000

Terms of Employment

(1) Travel allowance will be provided in accordance with JAMSTEC’s bylaws.
(2) The participant and JAMSTEC will share the premiums for insurance and labor insurance according to the current statutory proportion.
(3) Allowance for commuting expenses will be provided.
(4) No bonus/retirement allowance provided.
(5) Holidays and vacations: Saturday, Sunday, public holidays, year-end and beginning of the year are holidays. There are annual vacations with pay, special vacations, and leave of absence for care and maternity leave.
(6) Other: There are various kinds of subsidies available for personal interests/welfare provided by JAMSTEC’s employees’ cooperative.

b) Two reference (recommendation) letters written by senior research scientists, which should be sent directly from them by POST. Applicant’s name should be written on the envelope.
c) One copy of a resume. (a valid email address is essential)
d) One copy of publication list including thesis titles, with marks on representative publications. Please separate those with referred journals from other publications.
e) One copy of a list for competitive research fund from some kind of research institution in Japan. (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, any funded research from Japan Science and Technology Agency, etc)

2.Submission
Required documents must be sent by POST and reach JAMSTEC before/on the closing date. Electronic format will NOT be accepted.

3.Interview and Appointment

Candidates will be selected based on submitted application material, followed by an interview currently scheduled in late August 2010.
The successful candidates are expected to join us from October 1st, 2010, but the appointment date is negotiable.

MBA Scholarships for Developing Countries at Cyprus Republic

The Republic of Cyprus is offering up to a total of sixteen (16) full scholarships of 12-months duration to study for the attainment of the Master in Business Administration (MBA) or Master in Public Sector Management (MPSM)* title for the academic year 2010-2011. The Universities taking part in the scheme are: the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM), the European University Cyprus (EUC), the University of Cyprus (UCY) and the University of Nicosia (UNIC). Each University will receive up to four (4) students who will attend the above study programme as official scholarship holders from the Republic of Cyprus. Eligible candidates are citizens of the list of scholarship recipient countries for the academic year 2010-2011, as per the distribution shown below:

Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM)

Eligible candidates to apply for the scholarships to study at the CIIM Master in Business Administration (MBA) or Master in Public Sector Management (MPSM) programmes are citizens of Azerbaijan, Gambia, Sudan and Uzbekistan.

Application procedure

In order to submit an application for scholarship, the applicant must fill-in the relevant application form for the respective University programme. Along with the University application each candidate must attain an official endorsement by her/his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs using the Endorsement Form (detailed instructions on the endorsement procedure are included in the document). The applicant may then submit his/her application along with the endorsement form at a Competent Consular Authority of the Republic of Cyprus of their choice, not later than the deadline shown above for each University.

In order to expedite the process, it is strongly recommended that the applicant forwards a copy of the application form and a copy of the duly completed and stamped endorsement form to the Academic Institute organizing the program, as soon as he/she attains these documents. The originals should be submitted or sent to the Competent Consular Authority of the Republic of Cyprus, before the deadline (as instructed above). It is noted that ONLY applications accompanied by duly completed and stamped endorsement forms (by the applicant΄s Ministry of Foreign Affairs) will be considered for a scholarship award.

Special provisions for Pakistani and Armenian applicants:
1) It is noted that the application forms of Pakistani applicants will be short listed by the Higher Education Commission and subsequently endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan in Islamabad. This means that the first point of contact for Pakistani applicants is the Higher Education Commission.
2) Candidates from Armenia should obtain an endorsement of their application through the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia.

Important notes concerning the award of scholarships:

1. Candidates who have received a scholarship of either short or long duration by the Republic of Cyprus within the last two (2) years 2008 or 2009 are NOT eligible to apply for these scholarships.

2. Eligible candidates must be permanent residents of their country of citizenship.

3. All scholarships are offered officially by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus to other Governments on a bilateral basis as official technical assistance and not to individuals. Therefore, it is expected that with the end of the scholarship, the scholarship recipients will return to their country of citizenship so that the recipient country is benefited to the highest possible degree by the transfer of know-how and not just the individual receiving the scholarshsip.

4. For the scholarship to be awarded it is necessary for the candidate to accept the Terms and Conditions of the scholarship.
